WordPress SEO Services

WordPress runs a large share of the web, and it is genuinely good for SEO — right up until it is not. Twenty-eight plugins, three of which duplicate each other. A page builder generating five hundred nested divs. Two SEO plugins both writing meta tags. Attachment pages and tag archives indexed by the thousand. A 4MB hero image served at 300px wide. None of that is WordPress’s fault, and all of it is fixable.

I work on WordPress every week — building, auditing, cleaning up and maintaining sites — including a dedicated engagement covering WordPress and website management end to end. This page covers what WordPress SEO actually involves once you get past “install a plugin”.

What WordPress SEO services include

Plugin and configuration audit

Which plugins are earning their load cost, which are duplicating each other, which are injecting scripts on every page for a feature used on one. Conflicting SEO plugins resolved down to one properly configured source of truth. Caching, optimisation and security plugins checked for settings that are quietly breaking things.

Indexation control across WordPress’s default archives

Out of the box WordPress generates a surprising amount of thin, duplicative content: attachment pages, author archives on single-author sites, date archives, near-empty tag archives, paginated comment URLs and internal search results. Left indexable, these dilute your site and waste crawl budget. I set deliberate indexation rules per archive type rather than accepting defaults.

Page builder and theme performance

Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg, GreenShift, PostX and custom themes all have characteristic performance problems: deeply nested markup, unused CSS and JS loaded globally, render-blocking assets, layout shift from late-loading fonts and images. I identify what can be trimmed safely, what needs to be deferred, and what is load-bearing and must be left alone.

Core Web Vitals on WordPress specifically

Image conversion and correct sizing, lazy-loading applied everywhere except the LCP element, critical CSS, deferred non-essential JavaScript, font-display strategy, and caching configured to work with — not against — your host. The measurable target is field data in Search Console, not a lab score in a testing tool.

Structured data that survives updates

Schema implemented so it is not silently wiped by the next theme or plugin update: Person or Organization, Service, Article, BreadcrumbList, FAQPage and LocalBusiness where relevant, all validated and all consistent with what the page actually says.

Content structure and internal linking

Sensible permalink structure, one H1 per page, logical heading hierarchy, category and tag taxonomies that mean something, hub pages for topic clusters, and contextual internal links added to existing posts — which is usually the single fastest ranking improvement available on an established WordPress site.

Migrations, redesigns and rescue work

Redirect mapping for slug and structure changes, staging-to-live checklists that catch stray noindex tags, and post-launch verification. Also traffic-drop diagnosis after a redesign, which is nearly always redirects, indexation or an accidentally deindexed staging setting.

Ongoing site management

Core, theme and plugin updates handled with backups and a staging check rather than clicking “update all” and hoping. Broken-link monitoring, uptime, Search Console error watch, and monthly reporting.

Typical WordPress SEO problems I find

  • Two SEO plugins active, both emitting canonical and meta tags
  • noindex left on after a staging launch
  • Attachment pages indexed, one per uploaded image
  • Blog posts with no internal links pointing to them at all
  • Hero images at full camera resolution, lazy-loaded, destroying LCP
  • A caching plugin serving stale pages to Googlebot
  • Hundreds of tag archives with one post each
  • Sliders and animation libraries loading site-wide for one homepage section

What you receive

  • A WordPress-specific audit covering configuration, plugins, performance, indexation and content structure
  • Implementation on staging first where the risk warrants it, with a backup taken before any change
  • A plugin rationalisation plan with the reasoning for each removal
  • Indexation rules documented, so the next person to touch the site knows why they exist
  • Core Web Vitals verified in field data, not just a lab score
  • Optional ongoing maintenance and reporting

Safe-change policy

I do not make destructive changes to a live WordPress site without a backup and, where risk warrants it, a staging test. Plugin removals, permalink changes, redirect rules and anything touching the database get discussed before they happen. Speed matters less than not breaking your site.

WordPress SEO FAQs

What is SEO service for a WordPress website?

It is SEO work adapted to how WordPress actually behaves: configuring one SEO plugin correctly, controlling which default archives get indexed, rationalising plugins that hurt performance, tuning the theme or page builder for Core Web Vitals, implementing schema that survives updates, and structuring content and internal links so pages get crawled and ranked.

Which SEO plugin is best for WordPress?

Yoast SEO and Rank Math both do the job well; SEOPress is a strong lighter-weight option. The plugin matters far less than the configuration — and running two at once actively causes problems. This site runs Yoast, configured deliberately rather than left on defaults.

Does WordPress handle SEO on its own?

Partly. WordPress gives you clean URLs, a sitemap and reasonable HTML structure. It does not choose your keywords, control which archives get indexed, fix your page builder’s bloat, build internal links or write your schema. Those are decisions someone has to make.

Will removing plugins break my site?

It can, which is why removals are tested on staging with a backup in place before anything happens on production. Every removal comes with a reason and a rollback path. Nothing gets deleted on a hunch.

Can you make my WordPress site pass Core Web Vitals?

In most cases yes, and the work is usually images, render-blocking assets, fonts and plugin sprawl rather than anything exotic. Some page-builder sites hit a structural ceiling — where that is the case I will tell you what it would take to go further rather than pretending a caching plugin will solve it.

Do you work with Elementor, Divi or Gutenberg sites?

Yes, all of them. Each has its own performance characteristics and I optimise accordingly. Where a builder is genuinely the constraint, I will say so and outline the options rather than quietly rebuilding your site.

Can you take over an existing site from another developer?

Yes. That usually starts with an audit to document what is actually installed, what is configured where, and what is fragile — before changing anything.
